It could be the great expanse of the Gobi desert, the harsh tundra of Iceland or just some punk kids getting a cheap slice in Coney Island during the summer, doing travel photography doesn’t just limit you to take landscape photos, it’s all about telling a story about your experience and transporting your viewer to a certain place. You may have the best equipment at home but it’s advisable to bring only a lightweight kit that can withstand different traveling conditions—a great lens selection, tons of memory cards, mini tripod, flash unit, a portable storage unit and a durable bag that can also take different climates.

Before venturing into the rainforests of Brazil, it’s best to do research about your destination. Aside from the usual tourist attractions, what other photographic opportunities can you have when you immerse yourself in the people and culture of the region or country? You should also consider your travel accommodations if it’s safe to lug around that expensive camera equipment. In your down time, you can jot down a few notes and details about the people and places you took and include interesting trivia that will make your photograph more memorable and personal. If you’re into online games, you can also relax by playing games with sites such as FoxyBingo.com. With its vibrant online community you can meet new friends and even fellow photographers and exchange tips and tricks as well.

When it comes to shooting locals, it’s best to observe proper decorum meaning you should be aware of any cultural customs. Always be polite and ask for permission if you aren’t sure if it’s okay for you to take photos. If there’s a language barrier, you can simply smile and gesture with your camera. Don’t be afraid to interact with the locals, who knows, they might even open up and share their life stories with you and let you immortalize that moment on film. You can also check out the world’s largest photography fairs, CP+ Camera and Photo Imaging Show in Yokohama, Japan and Photokina in Cologne, Germany.

I’m so excited, can you tell?! I get to see my family! I’ll finally get to see my grandson, he’ll be 2 in June. I can’t wait, I can’t wait! Then there’s the beach … My all time favorite place! Can’t wait to be sitting on the beach just listening to the ocean.


I’ve been making a list of all the places I want to visit & photograph. Two Lights State Park is defiantly on my list! It’s so beautiful. When I lived in Maine I use to go all the time.
